The traditional classroom is being challenged every day, and its ways examined to be improved by the technology that exists and is to come. Science camps, virtual field trips, and innovative programs can give our students better comprehension and visualization of the concepts we are trying to teach.

Teachers play a huge role in students’ lives. Technology is not a replacement for teachers; it is another tool at their disposal to reach academic goals with their students. In my field of Computers in Education, I want to find the most effective use of technology to motivate students and help them gain better understanding for content areas in science and math. Technology is connected to science and math, and, in my belief, students should have a solid understanding of science through the use of computer technology.

If teachers are going to help students “…understand and work competently with science and math on a daily basis.” (Rudman, 1999) then we need to equip teachers with all the tools available in today’s world. However, it will be of little or no use to have computers, even though we have the best software and hardware available, if we don’t provide the research and training needed to make technology an effective teaching tool in science. When more educators collaborate with software developers, then more quality software can be produced that will help raise student achievement. (Dimitrov, 2002)
